The quiet beauty of Dunwich Forest and Dunwich Heath in Suffolk  never fails to inspire me, whatever the season or weather.  The tree forms in my recent work give me a framework to test my interest in the abstract relationship between form and space.  This is emphasised through painting techniques which allow the free flowing nature of the media to slip, layer and blotch their way over the various surfaces I employ to create a sense of mood and place.

When possible I draw 'en plein air' especially the woodland around Dunwich and the field structures along the Blyth valley.  In my Figure and Landscape series I am attempting to weave the human form into the colours and textures of the landscape, and this is heightened for me by the regular life drawing I do.
